The chief executive of Domino's Pizza Group who suggested the UK might have reached maximum pizza demand while broadening the franchise into fried chicken has been ousted after tensions with its board.
Executive Shake-Up
Andrew Rennie is leaving after a brief tenure in charge, and will be succeeded on an interim basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Frampton, while the pizza giant seeks a new leader.
Rennie, who worked for the company for more than two decades, had aimed to redirect Britain's biggest pizza food delivery firm towards poultry-based products, remarking earlier this month there was not “massive growth” left in the UK's pizza market. He said chicken was the fastest-growing menu item in the international market.
Governance Disagreements
It is understood that there was disagreement between Rennie and the governance team over his strategy and business vision, although the company's official statement said he was stepping down “as a joint decision”.
New Brand Launch
In the autumn, Domino's introduced its Chick 'N' Dip product line – which Rennie referred to as a “major strategic shift” for the group – and is piloting it in 210 outlets in the north-west of England and Northern Ireland.
While the business is still intending to launch it across its extensive network in 2026 as planned, it regards fried chicken as a supplement for its core pizza business.
Leadership Statement
Bull, the Domino's chairman, stated: “Directors think that there are a number of opportunities to drive further growth and performance improvement in Domino's core business. We are concentrating on identifying the suitable leader to direct the careful implementation of that expansion plan.”
Industry Difficulties
In the latest update, Domino's, which has a substantial customer base in the British Isles, said sales declined by one and a half percent in the latest quarter. In the summer, it cautioned that the quick-service industry had “grown more challenging” as it blamed reduced spending in the run-up to the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in half-year profits.
Competitors are also experiencing difficulties. Pizza Hut disclosed the shutting of multiple locations a last month, after the business behind its UK venues faced financial collapse.
Wellness Efforts
Adapting to customer preferences towards healthier eating, Domino's has introduced reduced-calorie products, such as its thin-crust line of bakes below 400 kcals as well as vegan and allergy-friendly options. A large pepperoni pizza has over 2,300 kcal. A family cheese pizza has 2,171 kcal, while a personal has 909 kcal.
Acting Management
The interim chief has been with Domino's since the recent past, and was formerly with the gambling company a well-known operator. It is understood that she is not seeking to assume the CEO position permanently.
Frampton stated: “We have a multiple ongoing growth and efficiency programs that we will be focused on implementing at speed.”
She added these included ongoing development on the organization's logistics network and product development, and its loyalty scheme.
Domino's is also without a permanent CFO until March 16, when Andy Andrea comes aboard from the Irish cider and beer maker C&C Group. For now, Snow serves as temporary CFO.
