European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as the French president charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on figures that were central to efforts to enact legislation governing American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials supported the French president in condemning the move.
The restrictions were enacted this week against an ex-European commissioner involved in crafting the bloc’s digital governance law, along with several activists fighting false information, including Germany and the United Kingdom.
